"Whatever you do, do it well" -Walt Disney

Hi, my name is Traci Mazza and I'm a licensed and registered occupational therapist. I started Cogworks in order to bridge the gap that I saw in the current healthcare system and offer premium services to individuals and families in their natural environment.

My experience working with the neurological population started in 2006, when I was a sophomore at DePaul University in Chicago. At this time, I started working with a senior within an Assisted Living Facility on exercises prescribed by his occupational and physical therapist. The time I spent with him was also used to transport him to and from appointments, bring him to places of interest, assist him with daily tasks, and socializing. The days I spent with this client quickly became my favorite days of the week. I realized at this time  the lack of availability of quality services in your home and community. This led to feelings of being stuck at home with nowhere to turn. I also found that this patient was struggling cognitively and was unable to find services to help him function throughout the day. I wanted to do something to help and bring joy to these individuals and their families - to give them the tools to be their best selves.

I attended graduate school at UW-Madison Wisconsin and received my Masters Degree in Occupational Therapy. Since receiving my degree, I have worked in outpatient, skilled nursing, and hospital settings with both the pediatric and adult/geriatric population. I found, as an occupational therapist, I was spending more time on documentation and less time on patient care. Patients were being seen more often by assistants rather than myself and therapists were being overworked leaving less time for completing patient related tasks. Finally, I found it difficult for clients and family members to carry over tasks and always thought it would be beneficial to work with patients in their natural environment. I wanted to have the flexibility to provide services wherever I felt the patient needed them. I knew I could do better and patients deserved better.

My Style: My clients and physicians I work with will tell you that I put my heart and soul into what I do. I am a strong believer in providing evidence based and holistic care where I look at the whole person. I've been told that I have a gift for reading people and getting others to feel comfortable.

My goofy dog, Goose. Just because he is cute.
